I Scream, You Ice Cream
Let’s be honest, no seaside break is complete without ice cream. Not a “maybe later” ice cream, but a proper, deliberate, leaning into it kind of ice cream. Cone or tub, sprinkles or flake, eaten far too fast while standing on the beach wondering why it’s already gone.
Sheringham is very good at this sort of happiness, and we’re lucky to have some brilliant places right on our doorstep. One of my absolute favourites is Aloha Ice Cream. It’s joyful, generous, and full of flavour, the kind of place where everyone, and I mean everyone, finds something they love. Classic favourites, vegetarian and vegan options, and even ice cream for dogs, because frankly, why should they miss out.
I feel quietly qualified to talk about ice cream, because once upon a time I ran an ice cream parlour myself. Inspired by my Italian roots and a deep belief that life is better with a good scoop in your hand. Ice cream is serious business in Italy, it’s about texture, flavour, and taking a moment to enjoy it properly. So yes, I’m fussy, and yes, Aloha passes the test.
Then there’s The Crumble Crib, which is pure comfort in a bowl. Warm, generous puddings, proper crumbles, rich sauces, and the sort of desserts that make you sigh with happiness. This is the place for when you want pudding pudding. The kind that feels like a hug. Add ice cream on top and suddenly you’re having a very good day indeed.
One of my favourite things to do is grab something sweet and take it down to the beach. Shoes off, spoon in hand, sea in front of you. Eat your pudding while watching the waves, laughing when the wind tries to steal a napkin, and not caring one bit. It’s simple, it’s slightly messy, and it’s perfect.
At Bloomsbury House, these little rituals are part of the joy. A walk into town, a treat bought on impulse, and the freedom to enjoy it without a timetable. Families piling out with excited kids, friends debating flavours like it’s a life decision, couples sharing bites and pretending they don’t want another one.
So yes, you scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream, and frankly, we should. It’s holiday food at its very best. Come and enjoy it properly, one scoop at a time, preferably with the sea in front of you and not a single plan for what happens next.
Hope to see you soon warm wishes, Annie x
